November is Financial Literacy Month. Organizations across Canada from the public, private and non-profit sectors take action to strengthen the financial literacy of Canadians.  In an era when financial stability is at the heart of family and socio-political issues, it is important to keep abreast of the latest economic developments to make informed decisions. What better place than the Library for Ottawa residents to be kept informed about financial literacy.

This year, OPL is addressing a long-time parents' challenge: online gaming and its danger. More and more social media platforms and online games incorporate gambling notions, exposing young people not only to financial instability but also to addiction. Throughout the month of November, the Library is hosting a series of bilingual workshops intended for parents, tweens and teens. Stay tuned for details regarding dates and location. These workshops are offered as part of the Youth Gambling Awareness Program delivered by YMCA of Greater Toronto.

Adults are not left out of the program. Drop by the Nepean Centerpointe branch at 6:30 p.m. on November 18 to learn about the importance of a retirement savings plan, and the tips and strategies that will help you make the most of your savings.

In addition to these programs, OPL branches will display various print and online resources that can help you understand the ins and outs of finance and empowering you to manage your money and debt wisely, save for the future, and understand your financial rights. Visit your local branch today or browse through the list of books below! At OPL, the more you know, the more you save!
