August is here, and with it comes the peak of summer heat! Don’t let the heatwaves get in the way of your reading routine with your children. Step into the refreshing cool of your local library branch—an ideal place to read with your children or to simply enjoy a quiet storytime together.
The TD Summer Reading Club is a fantastic way to keep kids reading all summer long. Designed for children ages 0 to 12, the program encourages daily reading through a fun calendar activity: kids mark off each day they read. Return the completed calendar to any OPL branch by August 31 to enter a draw for a chance to win a free one-year magazine subscription!
It’s not too late to join the fun! Drop by any of OPL’s 33 branches to register your children. You’ll receive a free reading kit, including the official reading ballot to track progress.
Already participating? Great! Keep the momentum going—one book at a time. Whether your kids enjoy board books, nonfiction picture books, or chapter books, there’s something for every interest, in both English and French.
And that’s not all—if you’re looking for ways to spend quality time with your kids this summer, explore the TD Summer Reading Club programs. These engaging, hands-on activities are designed to keep children learning while having fun. From arts and crafts to STEM, storytelling, writing, nature, history, and animals, there’s something to inspire every young mind. Here are some programs that might interest your children:
