Worxica, a curated job vacancy archive, is Canada's first free big data job market research tool. It's built specifically for job seekers and recruiters. The tools is a curated, online archive of two million Canadian job vacancies advertised over the past year. It includes salaries, skills, and certification requirements and current job search data. 

LinkedIn Learning for Library is an upgrade to the previous Lynda Library product, providing continued lifelong learning opportunities for all of our Clients. 

Over 16,000 video tutorial courses led by experts in Business, Creative, and Technology. Some tutorials are available in English, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Searching for a job is a full-time job! 

However, many jobs are never advertised.  Statistics vary, but they agree that a large percentage of jobs are found through in-person networking and referrals.  As well, recruiters use social media to search and find potential candidates.   

Gathered below are resources, online and in the Ottawa Public Library collection, to help you understand how to search for a job, and how to prepare yourself.

There are several databases to search:

Canadian Businesses: A directory of 2.3 million Canadian businesses

U.S.Jobs/Internships: 2.5 Million Job Postings

Canadian White Pages: 11 million Canadian households. Records are 100% publicly sourced to comply with Canadian privacy laws.

 

 

There are many online sites where you can find job openings, and you will probably want to use a number of them. Most will allow you to save your searches and receive job alerts by email or RSS feed. When searching for postings, use the Advanced Search options for the best results. Advanced Search lets you tailor your search by combining keywords and choosing options such as location, industry, job title, full-time or part-time. Each site has slightly different features so it is worth spending some time to find which are the best for you.
