Reading and Parents Program (RAPP) Packs

A busy children's library

Learning to read is fun with a Reading and Parents Program (RAPP) packs’ gamesactivitiespoemssongs and crafts. Each pack contain a book and interactive activities that that support language and literacy development. The packs are geared towards children aged 6 months to 6 years old, and include helpful literacy tips for parents.

There are three types of RAPP packs:

  • The ASL (American Sign Language) pack focuses on support for the language and literacy development, and support for those learning sign language. This pack features an activity booklet, a book and an ASL DVD with an interpreter signing a discussion of themes of the book. 
  • The Voices pack includes a book and CD, which includes songs and discussion of the themes of the book. 
  • The French packs (Trousse PLF) support development of French language and literacy skills. This pack features an activity booklet and beginner French book.

The RAPP packs are a creation of the Ottawa Public Library Alternative Services in partnership with Alternative Learning Styles and Outlooks (ALSO), a community group that focuses on Adult and Family Literacy, to offer new literacy material for children.
