Melodies and Memories: Wrapping Up Library Month

By 2 pm on Saturday, October 25, eager concertgoers had already begun lining up at the Nepean Centrepointe branch to enjoy a performance by Keith Whiteduck. Without keeping the audience waiting, he let his fingers dance across the keyboard, filling the room with music that was both lively and soulful—at times quick and percussive, at others smooth and expressive. The crowd was captivated from start to finish. One hour of music felt far too short, and the sound of applause lingered long after the final note.

It was a musical journey that came to a close—but one that surely opened the door to many more memorable moments at the Library.

Celebrating Library Month: A Community United

As Library Month draws to a close, we’re filled with gratitude for everyone who took part in the celebrations. It’s been a joy to meet familiar faces, passionate readers, devoted parents, curious students in search of quiet study spaces, and lifelong library enthusiasts. Each shared a unique story about how the Library enriches their lives—and we’re so thankful for the outpouring of appreciation for Ottawa Public Library.

A special thank-you to everyone who engaged with us on social media and answered our question:
📚 How do you chill at the Library
Here are just a few of your wonderful responses:

“I often come to the Nepean Centrepointe or Ruth E. Dickinson branch with my son. While he plays chess with his friends, I take some time for myself to read. Lately, I’ve been using this time to study French and listen to French podcasts. I love it here—it feels so cozy. I read a lot, and although we have around 700 books at home, I still come to borrow books for the kids.”

“Every Saturday, my wife, the kids, and I come together to choose the books we’ll read at night. We’ve been coming since my oldest was one, and now they both love to read.”

“If I have time, I usually sit down with a book and spend a while reading. Sometimes, I come with my sister too.”
