From October 6–12, 2025, Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is celebrating Science Literacy Week, a national event that invites Canadians to explore the wonder of science. This year’s theme, From Sea to Space, is your ticket to adventure — whether you’re curious about the mysteries beneath the waves or fascinated by galaxies far, far away.
Why OPL is the place to be
At OPL, we believe science should be fun, hands-on, and for everyone. That’s why we’re bringing you a week full of free programs that put curiosity in the spotlight:
Hop aboard STEAM Storytime, dig into gardening with Little Sprouts, or get curious with Pumpkin Exploration.
Try out STEM Clubs and Stations featuring coding, robotics, and LEGO at select branches. Young coders can also play with Sphero or learn with Cubetto, the cutest wooden robot.
And don’t miss Seafarer Science — an ocean adventure designed for our youngest scientists.
👉 Registration is now open. Visit our Programs and Events page for the full schedule.
Take science home with you
The fun doesn’t end when you leave the branch. With your OPL card, you can borrow free Ingenium passes and explore three of Ottawa’s coolest science museums:
- ✈️ Canada Aviation and Space Museum
- 🔬 Canada Science and Technology Museum
- 🌾 Canada Agriculture and Food Museum
Because science isn’t just something you read about — it’s something you experience.
Be part of something bigger
Science Literacy Week is a Canada-wide celebration led by the Canadian Association of Science Centres. OPL is proud to bring it to our community, making science accessible and inspiring for children, teens, and adults alike.
So mark your calendar, grab your library card, and get ready to journey from the ocean floor to outer space — no passport required.
